Inside Monticello, the city runs a small sewer system; outside it, Jasper County owns no sewer facilities and most of the county is unsewered, so homes use septic permitted by Jasper County Environmental Health on Eatonton Street. A Class Septic Services installs and repairs those systems and clears and grades the land around them.↗↗↗

The Monticello story
Monticello has been Jasper's seat since 1808, and GA 11, GA 16, GA 83 and GA 212 all meet around the traffic circle on the courthouse square. That makes it a hub for three lakes without being on any of them: Lake Jackson's Jasper shore lies northwest, GA 16 runs east about 17 miles to Eatonton between Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair, and GA 212 heads southeast toward Twin Bridges Road on Sinclair's northwest end.↗↗↗
Jasper is also the fastest-growing county in the lake region, up about 18 percent from 2020 to the 2025 estimate. About four in five Jasper residents already lived outside its two towns in 2020, and the county itself owns no sewer system; its plan says most areas are not served by one.↗↗
So a new house in Jasper usually starts with dirt work: clearing a pine or hardwood lot, cutting a drive in from the county road, and a septic system designed around dark red clay. That is the job sequence we run here.
Sewer or septic?
The City of Monticello is the only sewer in the county, with a little over 13 miles of sanitary line and two small creek plants: Pearson Creek on Wilburn Lane, permitted for 0.17 MGD, and White Oak Creek on Jordan Lane, for 0.115 MGD. The department's staff of nine serves about 1,100 homes, 170 businesses and one industrial customer.↗↗
City water mains run farther than the sewer, past the city limits, and the Jasper County Water & Sewerage Authority sells water in the county, but neither brings sewer with it. Shady Dale has water and no sewer. On Lake Jackson, Turtle Cove and Alcovy Shores have community water systems and septic at each house.↗↗

Soil & terrain
Monticello sits on intermediate-to-mafic bedrock that weathers to dark red clay under a dark reddish-brown loam, and the city center maps as Lloyd-Urban land. Lloyd is so typical of this county that NRCS set the series' type location just south of town on GA 11.↗↗↗
Across Jasper, Lloyd clay loam and Pacolet sandy clay loam on 6 to 15 percent eroded slopes are the two biggest map units, together about 69,700 acres. NRCS rates about 72,300 acres of the county's major soils very limited for septic fields and about 161,300 somewhat limited, so trench length and slope drive the design more often than not.↗
Water splits here too: roughly west of GA 11 the county drains to the Ocmulgee, and east of it to the Oconee, the direction of Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair.↗

Get the septic construction or repair permit before any digging; it is good for no more than 12 months.↗
On a Lake Jackson lot bordering Georgia Power land, the septic system and its repair area must fit on the leased lot, and new construction stays at least 50 feet from the shoreline.↗
